Im Back What happened???

When I first started blogging I had huge ideas and I still do  but like they say if you want to make God laugh make plans.  Unfortunately I have experienced a series of unfortunate events and if you follow me @urbnsocialite you should have some idea.  Last year I was trying to hit up all the spots and in all my cuteness I fell down and broke the heck out of my foot!  This of course messed up my whole summer. Then my job became extremely unstable which put another serious kink in my plans.  So right now I am currently unemployed (bummer) and am actively looking for work.  These events made it all extremely difficult to move forward with my plans for a website.  I still do plan on doing the website but as I learned all in due time.  So anyway my blog is now going to continue.  Yes I still plan on providing opportunities for musicians and local talent to present themselves on my blog, yes I will still post and discuss local events and community happenings.  So stay tuned the Urban Socialite is bacckkk!!!!!!!!

What I did this weekend Soul Bowl, Blakely's, All White

OMG I am thoroughly exhausted.  So I am finally really "socialiting" is that a word?  Ha!
Anyway, so Friday night I finally went to Blakely's for "fashion fridays."  Thanks to a friend of a friend we had VIP (what up King)!  My girl and I were looking quite cute if I do say so myself!  My opinion of Blakely's is that its a great place to go true clubbing.  The dance floor is huge, the men dance, and there are several bars. Apparently popular belief is that it is kind of a "hood" spot by I didn't really get that, the crowd was mixed with students, and all types of folks so I say he se la vie if you want to party there's no shame in Blakely's.

Last night me and Maria (shout out lady) went the Urban League's soul bowl (got to support the community right)?  We had a great time!  The food was good although there wasn't much of it.  They had a live band, Sanura, which was off the hook, the one guy sounded just like John Legend and the drummer on the right was kind of a cutie too (yea I peeped you).  Oh and the Urban League's rep Mike Lynk was extra cool too.  We shared a lane with two other ladies. LOL we all sucked at bowling but it was all good.

After that I checked out an all white party in Portsmouth at the old Flames spot I think.  Anyway it was cool too everybody came dressed to impress in their whites.

Friday at the Velvet Lounge

Last night I checked out the Velvet Lounge as some of my wonderful twitter socialites know.  Hmmm what can I say......well first of all it was my first time on Granby street (go me)!  Unfortunately, Granby st. was kind of dead, but I was informed by a very handsome young gentleman, that most people were out of town this weekend so it's all good!  Anyway, the Velvet lounge is what my friend called the TRUE definition of a lounge. It's small, intimate, and actually a nice place just to relax.  However, last night it was a club!  While the music was ok (better than Baxter's where we later went) there wasn't much of a crowd and the ladies outnumbered the fellas by 2-1!  The crowd was more hip hop than business casual so if your looking for an afterwork spot on Fridays I am not sure this is it, although I have heard that they do have a poetry night which I would like to check out.  The drinks were average price and the cost was $5.00 to get it in.  I popped in and out of there all night long as I checked out many of the spots on Granby st.  All in all it was cool but not exactly up to socialite status.............

Great opportunity to network!

So I just got this great email from a young woman named Robin who has started a meet up on meetup.com called Tidewater Black Professionals and Entrepenuer network!  Apparently she has been following my blog and had some very positive things to say.  I am deeply thankful for her email and am glad to know that people find my blog useful!

Amateur Comedy Night at Mojo Bones

Are you a funny person who loves to make others laugh? Do you like to see comedians but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it? Well Tuesday night I stepped out (because I love to laugh) to Mojo Bones where an amateur comedy night was hosted by Tru Brothers Entertainment. The featured comedians were Herman Hurston (former radio dj) and Fabian O'neil local funny man.

In the laid back setting, the crowd roared with laughter as the comedians hit the stage. The spot got so live that even the crowd participated by getting up on stage. Shout out to "cornbread" you know who you are. Amateur comedy was a riot! Check it out!
