Last night I attended a meeting of local government agencies, mentoring groups, and just plain ole' concerned citizens. The goal: to create a resource fair that will provide parents and children with the information necessary to combat gang violence and gang membership. Everyone is aware that many adolescents and children are inundated with violence on a daily basis. Well it is now time to do something about it! The City of Hampton community is taking charge and I commend them on their efforts and on their willingness to set the stage for the rest of the 7 cities! Please stay tuned for the date and time of the Resource Fair and spread the word!
I encourage EVERYBODY to get involved in your community by volunteering and politically by knowing who represents you on a local level. Everyone assumes that Barack Obama will be the answer to their prayers but he is not. It is your local representatives that make the biggest impact on your livelihood. I hear people constantly complain about how Virginia's laws are unfair and how they are being taxed too heavily! Well guess what get involved! Write a letter, go to a meeting! First off shout out to Terry Riddick, his brother Will, and Angela harris for putting together an amazing community event for the kids! Today I stopped by the free hair cuts for kids event put on by the brothers of Best Kept Secret. It was a great event with kids lining up to get haircuts. The event was full of love and it was an awesome opportunity to get involved in the Newport News community, give back and to network.
